Today the snow has been falling from the sky and I have been hiding in my cosy workshop making coasters.

I love coasters they are such a practical gift but also a little piece of artwork, I probably have waaay too many coasters scattered all over the house not that the kids or the husband are aware of how to use them lol

we will be adding coasters to the website over the coming days. We are happy to personalise coasters with your own image as well as making our own… so if you have an idea, or are an artist looking for different ways to display your work please get in contact with us

Handmade Jewellery

In a past life i made jewellery, I stopped making it about 5 year ago just before my little girl was born.

I thought i had packed everything into the loft but on a recent tidy i discovered some of this jewellery at the very bottom of a drawer in little plastic bags looking very miserable. As i only ever crafted from fun these had never had packing and to be fair i never really had a clue about marketing or packaging so i thought what was the point in doing anything to them … oohps!

So in a moment of boredom out came the laptop a wee bit of Photoshop magic and i made some lovely card necklace holders now these  previously unloved necklaces look gorgeous, and ready to be loved again …  i’m so glad i found them 🙂

Harris Tweed

So this week i was working on a few Harris Tweed Cushions and as I love Harris Tweed possibly more than i should. I thought i would write a quick post about it ….  We buy all our Harris Tweed Direct from Small Independent Weavers so I can only make one or two of each item from it. this is because the runs are often small and we never know if it will be woven again.

Harris Tweed is such an interesting and Unique fabric, Harris Tweed is the only Fabric with its own act of parliament!

Whats so interesting about Harris Tweed is it is truly Handmade. It must be woven by traditional methods so it is untouched by by modern technology.

The definition of HARRIS TWEED contained in the Harris Tweed Act of 1993 clearly defines HARRIS TWEED as follows:

“Handwoven by the islanders at their homes in the Outer Hebrides, finished in the Outer Hebrides, and made from pure virgin wool dyed and spun in the Outer Hebrides.”

The Act ensures that all cloth certified with the HARRIS TWEED Orb symbol complies with this definition and is genuine HARRIS TWEED, the world’s only commercially produced handwoven tweed.

The legislation and organisation allows the safeguarding of the HARRIS TWEED name, quality and reputation of HARRIS TWEED ensuring that every metre of the world famous cloth conforms to the same exacting standards and gives legal powers to address imitation and counterfeiting of the cloth worldwide.

So as i love all things Handmade and Harris Tweed  lol here is one of the cushions i completed this week
